CPAP Nasal Pillow Masks – Minimal Contact, Maximum Comfort
In this type of CPAP mask, the bridge of the nose remains free. The therapy air flows through nasal pillows placed just below the nostrils directly into the airways. Compared to nasal masks that cover the entire nose including the bridge, skin contact is minimal, which increases comfort.
Advantages over nasal masks
- Free nose bridge – no pressure on the nose.
- Minimal skin contact – reduces the risk of pressure marks.
- Stable for side and stomach sleepers – less slipping and leakage.
- Ideal for beard wearers – placement at the nostrils minimizes leaks caused by facial hair.
- Unobstructed field of vision – perfect for reading or watching TV before sleep.
Especially suitable for people who mainly breathe through the nose and prefer a very lightweight and discreet mask.
When is a nasal pillow mask not suitable?
For sleep apnea patients who mainly breathe through the mouth at night, a nasal pillow mask is not recommended. Mouth leaks can lower therapy pressure and reduce the effectiveness of CPAP therapy. In these cases, full-face masks or the use of a chin strap are advisable.
